Timeless Decor

It's Friday!
Are you getting your Fall weather finally?  Or perhaps some Winter weather?  It is -2 C or 27.6 F here in Manitoba today, I nearly froze on my walk yesterday, I will have to dress a little more warmly today.

I was looking through some of my Inspiration images yesterday and came across these.  I  collected them several years ago, but to me they are as fresh today as they were then.

This is what I was loving back then.

As you can see, I have always loved the Cottage decorating style and I am still loving it.
Has your style changed through the years or are you still loving the same things?  Of course trends influence us over the years, but has your style remained the same?

Have a lovely day!

White Wednesday

Welcome to another White Wednesday!
I love the look of white in my home and I use it as much as I can because it feels so serene and pure.

This photo looks yellowy due to the setting on my camera, it's all white in real life.

Head on over to Faded Charm to see more white loveliness, on this White Wednesday.
Thanks for stopping by, I hope you are enjoying a lovely sunny Autumn day.  It has finally turned rainy here and there is even snow predicted for areas around us, but not here today.  Thank the Lord!

Bright Ideas

Do you look at rooms and just instinctively know what could or should be changed to make it "better"?  I wish I could say I always do, but I can't.  But, every once in a while it happens and one just such incident happened recently.  I was looking at a photo of my friend, Elizabeth's Home is Where the Heart Is, kitchen and I just knew if she made a change in her window treatments that the whole room would look more up to date and more attractive.  I made a comment to her and she wanted my ideas.  I sent her the photo mosaic below, I don't know where I found it, if it's yours please accept my apologies and let me know and I will post it, or if someone else knows.

Elizabeth loves lace and she sews beautifully, so I knew she could make these and she did.  Have a look at her version.

Aren't they lovely?  I think her dining room looks just right, now!  You did a beautiful job, Elizabeth, I just love your sweet little kitchen, it is so bright and pretty.

I hope your Monday is sunny and bright!

Loving White

I am overwhelmed with the comments that came in from Monday's post.  Thank you to all of you who stopped by!  It seems that we have all made a lot of friends through blogging and have enjoyed the encouragement and creativity that we find out there, too.  You have all enriched my life beyond belief.  I love you!

I am joining White Wednesday over at Faded Charm, again today.

While perusing blogs one day, I came upon one that I hadn't looked at for a while and I'm not not sure I why I hadn't, because it is so gorgeous!!!
These photos belong to Suzanne from Me and Alice, a decorator who lives in Sweden and uses a lot white in a most delicious way.  I am using these with Suzanne's permission. So, if you haven't checked out this blog yet and you love white done right, then you will love Me and Alice.

Thank you Suzanne for all of the eye candy and I hope you, my reader, have enjoyed it too!

Have a Wonderful Wednesday!!!

Blessed Monday

Do you realize what a wonderful world the Blogging world is?  I have come to appreciate it so much.
When I opened up my email this morning, I had emails from four, count that 4 very special friends that I have made through my blog.  Now, tell me, what could be more wonderful than that?  The beautiful thing is, these friends all share several things in common with me.

So today, my heart is very full and I am feeling very grateful for my blogging friends.

When I started this little blog, my husband and I had just moved to a new province and I had left all of my friends behind, many, many miles away.  But through my blog I made a dear friend in Belgium and many in different areas of the US and even one here in my city, who lives within walking distance of me.  And I met them all through my blog!

Have you met some special people through blogging?
People who will always be your friends?

If you are reading this, then I want you to know that I appreciate you.  Please leave me a comment and I will visit your blog and leave you a comment.
Let's be friends!!!

Re-post Sunday

Hello, my blogging friends, today I am joining Chari over at Happy to Design

So this is a reprint of a post that I made just over a year ago, not long after I had begun blogging.

It's all about the capitol city of Manitoba, our beautiful province here in Canada.

Welcome to the city of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.  Winnipeg was incorporated in 1873. There is a lot of beautiful architecture here. A great example are the Legislative Buildings. It sits on the shore of the Assiniboine River and is constructed of Manitoba Tyndall limestone. As well as being the capitol of Manitoba, it is also the largest city in Manitoba with a population of approximately 700,000 people.

This is the fountain that lays between the Legislative building and the river.

The whole front of the building at dark. Inside the architecture is breath taking, I won't bore you with the details, but it is worth seeing if you ever pass through this city.

Do you see the Golden Boy standing atop the dome?

Downtown Winnipeg

The Fort Garry Hotel and our beautiful flag!

Another view, I am told that Winnipeg was built in the middle of a natural forest.  So there are very large, old trees everywhere you look.

St. Vitel Cathedral, it burned down some years ago and only the shell remains, but it is very picturesque, don't you think?

Thank you to my dear husband for taking these pictures.

And thank you dear reader for taking the time to stop by and say hi, so be sure to leave me a comment.

Have a very happy Sunday!!!

Old House Love

When you see an old house do you admire it and wonder what it looks like inside?  Or do you hold your breath and think about the stories that house could tell, if it could talk?  I LOVE old houses.
This is a house that was found amongst some old family photos, I don't know who lived in it, but I sure wish I did.  It was most likely in Oklahoma, somewhere between Tulsa and Henryetta.  That is where my mother grew up and lived until she was about 18.

I have always wanted to have a porch like this one, running around the front of my house.  It has a very interesting roof on the porch, it looks like it's curved.  I could look and dream about this house all day.  If it's still around today, which I doubt, I hope someone has fixed it up and is taking good care of it.
There are a few lovely old homes in my neighborhood, a couple look a little like this one.  I would so love to see the interiors!
Do you love old houses?

Have a beautiful weekend, my friends!

My Favorite Photo

Have you ever taken a photo that you have gone back to look at again and again and felt like it was and is probably the best one you have ever taken?  Capturing children in a photo is not always easy, they can't sit still and sometimes they pose and it just becomes so overdone it isn't real.  Back about four years ago I took this one and I just found it a couple of days ago.  Once again I was in awe of how much I love this photo.
Please tell me what you think.

This is my youngest granddaughter at about 2 1/2.  I simply asked her to get into that little Fall vignette and pick up the handle of the wagon and act like she was pulling it.  So she did, and I think it is priceless.  The colors are so vivid and it looks real, not posed.

We used to go with the grands and their parents to the Stoney Ridge Farm every year.  They had lots of animals and gourds, too.
They also had apple trees.

Grandpa helped her pick the big apple at the top of the tree.

Do you have a favorite photo that you still love the best?  If so post it and leave me a message telling me that you have, some time this week or next and I would love to come over and see it.

Have a lovely day all!

White Wednesday

Not wanting to get in a rut, I thought that I would join White Wednesday today instead of the outdoor memes.

Last January we gutted the kitchen in this 1927 cottage.  We had a kitchen company come in and add all new cabinets.  My hubby did all of the other work, such as installing a pine ceiling, cork floor, bead board on the walls and lots of plug ins.
I love color, but not in my kitchen.  I have a very simple, calming palette in the kitchen, it's mainly white.

I spend a whole lot of time in here, I love to cook and bake and I'm so thankful that I have a sweet husband who loves my cooking.  On the left is a vintage toaster, my neighbor gave me that, it was given to him by another neighbor to whom it had belonged since it was new, I believe.  It's a real treasure.

I can't have a kitchen photo without my beloved KitchenAid in it.  I enjoy the silver tray chalkboard, that I made, too.  To the left of the tray is a vintage cast iron corn mold, that's what I call it anyway.  If you know the correct name, be so kind as to tell me.

Well, there you have it, my white kitchen.  A simple palette and some much loved items.

Be sure to check out all of the white over at Faded Charm's White Wednesday meme.

Our weather has remained warm, in the upper 70's and mid 80's, but is meant to cool down next week.  I am LOVING it!

I must add that I am thanking God that the Chilean miners are being being safely rescued, at last.

Giving Thanks

Here in Canada we celebrate Thanksgiving on the the second Monday of  October.  Like everywhere else, it is a day of feasting with friends and family and of giving thanks.

We will be having dinner at our son and daughter-in-law's new house.  We will have the traditional meal of Turkey and all the trimmings.  My contribution to the meal will be Cranberry Salad, Apple Pie, homemade Dinner Rolls, Cornbread dressing and the Turkey.

I am so very thankful for our family, our friends, our church family and God's many blessings upon our lives.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of my Canadian blogger friends.  I pray that you are also thankful for the blessings that you have experienced in the past year.

Welcome to another outdoorsy Wednesday post.

While on vacation this summer, after climbing around on Mount Baker we stopped here to see this Waterfall.  It was fairly large and the slopes were very steep.  But, oh so beautiful!

The pool at the top.

Surprise!  There are actually two waterfalls there~

They flow into this beautiful rushing stream.  In the bottom right hand side of this photo you can see the chain link fence that keeps the public safe.  Thank goodness for that, it would have been far too dangerous to take little ones to see, otherwise.

The grands had fun playing on this huge old stump.  They still had energy after climbing around on Mount Baker and then walking in to see these lovely falls.  Oh to have that kind of energy again.
I believe my husband took all of these photos.

I am joining Watery Wednesday, today.  Check out this meme, there are lots of great outdoor photographs over there.

Enjoy your day my friends!
