I Made It All This Week

Thank you to everyone who sent Birthday greetings to my sweet little granddaughter,

Naomi. Her mom showed it to her and read it out to her.

I have found a great blog party to link up with today.

My hands have been busy this week in order to keep my mind busy.

I had made this curtain a few weeks back, but I didn't like where I had it, so I put

it here instead. Can you see it on my front door there?

I had taken the pink pillow covers off of these green pillows here on my sofa, but I

wasn't crazy about the green, in fact, I wanted them just to fade into the sofa.

So I covered them in an old soft muslun fabric. This fabric used to be a tablecloth,

I knew I would never use it again, so I re-purposed the fabric! I love doing that.

Now the fabric looks much like the sofa fabric. That was what I wanted.

Then I made the little middle pillow out of a fabric that I so love.

I think the overall look is better, what do you think?

Then I wanted to move these milk glass vases from where I had them.

So I put them here and plunked my wonderful jute string

into one of them. I love it!

If you have been following my blog then you know that we recently remodeled our kitchen.

This black grill was the cover to the cold air vent. I made a picture holder out of it.

I can't say it was my idea, I saw something like it on another blog somewhere.

When my hubby saw it, he told me that he really liked it! I was so pleased.

One last project. I had a pillow cover that I had made a boo-boo on.

So I cut a piece of muslun and covered it using just a hot glue gun.

Then I found a piece of wrapping that I had that had some really

pretty writing on it and I copied some of the words on to the fabric freehand.

I like the result.

One Last February Birthday

Naomi is nine years old today!

She is the one who made me a grandma.

I will never forget the time her folks were visiting us when she was just two years old.

I had gone to my bedroom and I heard a little voice calling "Gama".

I felt such a thrill go through me, it was the first time any little one had called me grandma.

I still love it when I hear one of my grandloves call me grandma, it never grows old.

Being a granma is truly the BEST thing in all the world and I try hard to be a grandma

that my grands will remember fondly all of their lives.

She is fun loving...

Smart...


Loving...

Kind...

Adventurous...

Hilarious...

and a very good big sister.

She is a high achiever and makes very good grades at school. She loves to

try new things whenever the chance presents itself .

I love spending time with Naomi, she is outgoing,

but not a non-stop talker, we enjoy a lot of quiet time together.

She enjoys reading and singing.

Happy 9Th Birthday my sweet Naomi. I love you SO much.

Winter Birds

Don't you love seeing wildlife, especially in the Winter months? I do.
We have dozens of birds in our backyard year round.
Here are just a few photos of some of them as well as a few other photos, too.

I hope you enjoyed the photos. We are very blessed in that we are having a very mild Winter. Mild for us that is. It was -24 Celsius when I woke up this morning and that's the coldest that it has been for several weeks. And that is only a few degrees below 0 Fahrenheit.
That's very chilly on the face when I go out for a walk. It has to be a VERY fast walk,
maybe a jog even.

Carolyn's Little Cottage

Happy Birthday to my sweet daughter, Carolyn!

This is her with her two little ones, Bethy is hiding behind her and Nate is smiling.

She is a SAHM and so glad to be one, she has a wonderful husband who happily

makes the living for his family.

We are also celebrating Spring in North Western Washington! No, I don't live there, Carolyn does, though. She sent me a photo today of the Weeping Willow in her front yard.

Doesn't the green that you can see there look wonderful!?!

Inside her little cottage you will find newly painted walls and a lovely chandelier.

She made her table cloth and the window coverings are from IKEA.

A little old cupboard that I gave her several years ago.

It is the first piece of furniture that I ever painted white.

The Shabby Chic look was just catching on way back then.

This is the Beach Inspired family room. She printed out the black and
white photos of her children at the beach and framed them. Her and the kids
spend a lot of time at the beach during the summertime.

The family room fireplace that heats most of the house.

I love the saying there, so true!

We are in her living room now.

She got this very comfortable little chair off of Craigslist for about $25.00!

It is old, but has been reupholstered and has a lot of years left in it.

I love her little pillows!

Bird Pillow

I have found a new to me blog. You really must check it out, some of these women have s0me fabulous ideas!

My fabulous frugalicious idea was the pillow that you see on the chair to the right. I had made a stencil of a bird and stenciled it on to the pillow, but it was still too bare. I have seen stenciled words on pillows all over the blogs that I read, so I decided that a word was what this little pillow needed.

I stenciled the word, BIRD on it, but now I'm wondering if it needs another word there as well, SEED could go under it. or something else, what do you think? To do it, I drew a picture of a bird on a piece of light weight cardboard and then with an exacto knife, I cut out the bird on the branch. Then I slipped another piece of light cardboard into the pillowslip so that the paint would not bleed through to the underside of the cover. Next, I dipped my large tipped paint brush into my black paint and blotted it on another piece of paper and began to dab paint onto the stencil. I did the same with the word "Bird". Be sure to slip that piece of cardboard between the slip, you don't want the paint bleeding through. It was the first time I had ever done something like this and it proved to be very simple and easy.

I only payed $4.99 for this pillow and another one like it at the Real Canadian Superstore. I am loving it and I think that is a pretting frugal project!

Outdoor Wednesday Ice Fishing in Lockport

Ice Fishing on the Red River


We went for a drive on Monday, it was a holiday here, Louis Riel Day and we drove through
Lockport. There was literally a small town set up down on the Red River just down
from the dam.

There is open water here at the dam and only a kilometre down river, if that,
cars and shacks are set up on the ice.

temporary, like the ones above.

I had never seen the like before. From what I can learn, they are catching Walleye and Catfish.
I know the Red has some huge catfish, when we were there last summer we saw
catfish in the fish ladder that were 20 inches long and longer.

Not far from there is this beautiful old stone church and cemetery.

Baking Cookies!

I tried out my new Convection Oven today and I LoVe It!!!

In thirteen minutes I had baked three dozen cookies. I made clean up easy for myself by using the parchment paper. These are Oatmeal Raisin Cookies from Cooks.com. I use whole wheat flour in place of the white all-purpose flour, the extra fiber is always a good thing. They always turn out very well.

While I was in the state of Washington visiting my daughter, we went shopping in an Antique Shop in Lynden. She bought the two milk glass vases for me. I am still trying to decide just what to do with them. Any ideas? I love the old silver in the one.

My sis bought the wire pear for me, it holds a votive candle. We always get birthday presents for each other. It isn't until March, though.

I think it looks wonderful there.

Sue also gave me this key, I had just seen them in the Pottery Barn catalogue and I wanted one so badly. She gave me two! My sis is very special.

I hope your day is going well. I am still fighting this ugly cold, but it is not getting the best of me today. I have been very busy. I have three loaves of bread in the oven at the moment. Mmm, they will be so good! I have also been busy with my trusty spray paint. I will show you the results of that soon, I promise.
