My Sister's Living Room

Hello my friends, so nice to visit with you again!

I was talking to my younger sister, Sue, early last Summer and she was telling me that her daughter was moving out soon and she would be an empty nester and thus she would be moving.  I was inspired to suggest to her that she list all of the furniture that she did not particularly like on Craigslist and buy some new furniture that she really liked.  And most importantly that she felt reflected her taste.  So she did just that.  Then she found a two bedroom apartment that was much smaller and cheaper than the home she had been living in.  After much searching, Sue was not able to find anything that really suited her and her budget.  She asked me for suggestions on what she should buy and I could not resist suggesting to her my own favorite sofa and chair, the Ektorp line from IKEA.  She had already purchased her window treatments during an earlier visit there.
So she took a look and loved them as much as I did.  She is still looking for a coffee table and a few other things.  But I asked her if I could show you what her sofa and chair look like.

I think it is looking just beautiful!
I suggested that she make pillows in a color to match her wall for the couch and chair.  And possibly smaller white pillows to sit in front of the dark pillows.

She is open to suggestions, do you have any for her?  The plants that you see are live plants, she has a real green thumb, unlike me.  The paint job is something that she can't do much about because it's a rental.

I am joining the following parties.

Have a lovely weekend!

I love the Ektorp line from IKEA! I really want the sectional in white for my family room. I am planning to get 2 of the Jennylund chairs for my front living room in the next couple of months. Here living room looks great so far!

I love that sofa from IKEA. I need a new one and would love that style. Can't have white 'though
as three little grandchildren visit very frequently! I'm sure your sister appreciates your kind advice. It's a beautiful room.
Have a great week-end. The signs of spring will surely be appearing soon :)

I think your sister's living room looks great! I think the dark pillows would really pop on the white sofa and chair. What about some touches of light blue or aqua? I wish there was an Ikea in the Maritimes! I would so have that sofa :-)

It's beautiful.. I've never been to Ikea, but want to go so much. I love the white furniture, because she can change her "colors" anytime by simply adding pillows!!!

I have heard so much about this sofa. Wish we had an Ikea where I live. This is pretty and I think you have given her the perfect advice.

Oh Cindy, your sister's place is beautiful! You did a great job on advising her. I love the white sofa and chair. Seems to be the perfect place for an empty nester.

Thanks for sharing and enjoy your day,
Gail

Hi Cindy...

Oooh...your sister's home is sooo pretty! I DO love her new sofa and chair! I would love to have a white set like this...would be so versatile! Her room is neutral enough that she could easily bring in an accent color and change it up often for a different look...or even for the different seasons! I'm so happy for her! How exciting to get to buy all new furniture! Thanks for sharing her new pretties and lovely home with us! Extend my congrats to her!!!

How are you doing, my sweet friend? I hope that my note finds you well! I'm so glad that you stopped by for a visit...it's always such a pleasure, Cindy! Thank you!!!

Warmest wishes,
Chari

I really like her sofa and chair. I wish we had an IKEA close to us. I see talent for decorating runs in the family.... :)

So cute. White furniture would scare me, though, cuz I'm so clumsy.

no suggestions but I love the white furniture, seems perfect for an emptynester. (not perfect for me at this time but it really appeals to me)

I want a sister just like you!! ;-)

I like your ideas for your sister's room. I like the idea of cushions in the colour of the wall. Might she also want a brighter, contrasting colour too? Different people like different amounts of colour so I don't know if she would....but I noticed her little maroon-ish cushion and I thought that colour worked well too...

Just a thought!

Great advice you gave your sister...these IKEA pieces are so reasonable and have such a great look and really anchor the room. We used the sofa in one of our West Village apts and could not have been happier with it. My only advice would be for her to follow your other piece of advice about going with what SHE really likes and what reflects her personal taste with all of the accessories now. She is off to a great start with these foundational basics. Still love you header...everytime I open your page I just want to sit down in that space and have a cup of tea with you!

Hi there- Ikea has some really great pieces at such amazing prices! I haven't purchased too many things from them, but do love their draperies and what not. She should just find what she likes and what makes her happy when she walks in the room! Thanks for sharing at Feathered Nest Friday! Now following.:)

I've always loved your sofa, Cindy, and it was a great suggestion for your sister's home as well. The sofa and chair look lovely in her LR.
So glad you ordered yourself a David Austin Rose catalog... you're going to love it.
Have a great weekend. :)
