~For the Love of Music~

From the time that I was very young, like most people, I have loved music.  When I was nine, I started taking clarinet lessons and our family moved, putting an end to those.  Then I began to take piano lessons when I was eleven and our house burnt down and that ended that, because we no longer had a piano.  But at age 40, a dear friend gave us an old upright piano and I taught myself to play it  Now I have a full-size keyboard, I only chord, but I have spent many enjoyable hours playing and singing.
Recently, my ten year old granddaughter sang in a 150  voice children s choir accompanied by the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.  Pairing the pure voices of children with live symphony music was SO beautiful!  I came away completely in love with live symphony music.

A few weeks back I mentioned that, for my birthday, my son and his wife had gifted us with tickets to a Steve Bell Concert, where he would be performing with the Winnipeg Symphony.  Mr. Bell is from here in Winnipeg.  He is a Gospel singer/songwriter whose music has been influenced by a visit to a monastery in India and other such experiences.  We attended the concert/symphony on Saturday evening and it was amazing!!!  I LOVE symphony music and I also very much enjoy Piano music and Steve Bells pianist, Mike Janzen, plays the most beautiful jazz piano I have ever heard.  The band was made up of four pieces and they each one are experts on their instruments.
I hope you listen to at least one of the videos.  The first one says that it was recorded with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra!  This next one was with the Calgary Symphony Orchestra.

This last one is very moving.  Do you enjoy music?  If so, what kind?  More often than not I have symphony music playing, Symphony Hall, on Sirius Radio is my favorite.

I love the look of pianos, don't you?  You put a grand piano into a pretty room and it immediately makes the whole room more attractive.

Traditional Home

I would love to have one, even if I did not play, they are so very beautiful.

Traditional Home

It looks so lovely sitting between two seating areas like this.

Please be sure to tell me which kind of music you enjoy!
Enjoy your day and thanks for coming by!

Hi Cindy...I LOVE music1 I came from a very musical family, everyone had beautiful voices and could sing parts and play anything they heard by ear. I have sung the leads in many musicals, the last one I did was The King and I. My daughter was making up the most beautiful songs starting at age 4, so we got her into piano, classical etc. she play beautifully. We gave her our piano but now I wish I had one in the house. I would even love a baby grand. These pictures are so pretty! :D

Hi Cindy! Well, you know how I love music! I grew up in the south, Alabama, and was raised on Southern Gospel. I took piano lessons from a former pianist of a gospel quartet! I woke up one morning when I was 11 years old and told my mother I wanted to learn to play the piano so I could play in church. I've been playing piano in churches since I was 13 years old. I'm pianist now at my church and what a joy it is for me to offer back to God the gift He's given me. I feel so blessed to have my baby grand piano. Before my husband bought me this (1986) I had an old upright. The mirror was broken on the top and the cords that held the felt hammers would break and my hubby would fix them for me with crochet thread. It was horribly flat and just couldn't be tuned anymore as the strings had rusted! I call my baby grand "My Gift"!
Lovely post, Cindy!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia :)

Hi Cindy
I'm glad you enjoyed the Steve Bell concert. I always like his concerts.
When Steve was about 14 years old, he sang at our church, (before he was famous.) He had a very nice voice even then.
I wonder if your grandaughter sang in the same choir with the symphony as our grandaughter did. (the one about the holocaust)

Enjoyed those two music clips. Funny you should post about music today being that I've been all over you tube this morning looking for love songs to send hubby as today is our anniversary. We have a little thing where we'll send a song to each other now and then. I love all kinds of music. I've been to the Houston Symphony many times. I really should take my kids although I'm sure they'd be bored. My daughter would enjoy it though.
I used to have a grand piano. Saddest day was having to sell it. But that is one piece you do no want to move across country or from house to house.
Beautiful photos!
Have a lovely day sweet friend.

Hi Cindy,

Thank you for sharing your love for music and Steve Bell. I also love all kinds of music and grew up in a home where my Mother played classical and pop music by ear as she never took music lessons.

Have a lovely day.
Blessings,
Erin

Hi Cindy, I grew up in a home where my father listened to classical music and opera. I took piano for 7 years from grades 2 through 8 but have lost it all now. I still like classical music but prefer contemporary Christian music. I also like old rock music because I grew up in the 60's :-) And since my hubby plays keyboards at our church I hear all styles of Christian music. I have never heard of Steve Bell before so thanks for sharing his videos today. Have a great day! Blessings, Pamela

I LOVE havibng a piano in our house. A piano and a cat make any house a home, in my book!!!

Oh, Cindy, I didn;t know that your childhood home burnt down. That must have been absolutely awful for you. I'm so sorry.

But I'm so glad that you got around to learning properly as an adult. Good for you!

Oh Cindy, so happy you had a wonderful time at the concert. I love music too...From a very young age, thanks to my father's love of music, I have appreciated it and loved it...All kinds...well maybe Rap not so much...Hee, hee, hee. In our family, my daughter is the piano player...We don't have much room in our petite cottage for a beauitful grand piano or even a baby grand...Not that we could afford one anyways ;-)...But we do have an upright. Every time she plays it, it is just magic. Thank you so much for sharing my sweet friend.

Much love,
♥Ana

Hello Cindy,
I've always loved music. I wanted to learn piano but never did. Both of our sons play guitar and I love to hear them play. I enjoyed the clips. Thank you for visiting my blog. I'm enjoying yours.

Hello Cindy, Love music too. Wish I could sing! Or play an instrument for that matter - but, God blessed this family - my husband has an amazing voice, as do all of my children and all three play piano - my youngest practices every day on our old piano, fills my heart with joy! So glad to hear about your gift and the concert -
Hope you're day is blessed,
Kathy

Hello Cindy,
I also love music especially piano music. When I was a little girl wanted to play so badly and we got an upright piano and began lessons. The teacher came to the house but I never did learn to read music cause she was so mean and would slap my little hands so badly if I made an error, mom was never in the room. I was afraid of her but never told mom, so what I did was to memorize the music just from hearing her play. Now I still love piano music and have many cd's of just piano tunes.
Lovingly,
Lu (I am your latest follower, kitty with had)

Cindy thank you for sharing Steve Bell's music with us! I have never heard him before and I am going to have to get some of his CD's. He reminds me a little of Micael Card who is one of my favorites.

Hi Cindy,
I really love music too. I always regretted not learning a musical instrument (although I attempted clarinet in 4th grade!) My son is learning keyboard and if he enjoys it for a while we will invest in a piano. I would love to have a piano in our house - love your photos! Thanks for stopping by my blog!

Hi Cindy, pretty rooms and I so like that they also look comfortable.
I like music in church and I sing to my grandbabies, but other than that, I don't listen to much music. I really like quiet.

Cindy has a very good voice. She and her daughter are talented in that area. I sing because I love to sing.
I recall when you first began learning piano as an adult. I helped you over the phone and you just took off. In a very short time you were out playing me. I am so glad you use your talents for God.
I love grand pianos too. I got to play one at the Weirton, West Virginia church once. Beautiful sound.
I love all kinds of music but especially gospel, piano, jazz, any instrumental.
