Silence Is Golden

On Tuesday evening my electricity went out due to a big windstorm that went through our city.  It was out for about three hours, so I decided I would sit out in the backyard and read.  I was struck by how very quiet it was.  None of the Central Air units were humming and no music blared, it was silent except for the birds singing and squirrels screeching.  I just sitting under the crab-apple tree watching the limbs sway.

Then I checked out my tomato plants they were doing well ...

I turned around and a little bird was at the bird feeder...

The bird flew away and when I looked down, a squirrel was getting ready to take it's place...

I sat down again and began to read,  I felt something looking at me and sure enough, one of the wild rabbits was sitting amongst the flowers watching me...

Well, that was my exciting night!

Tonight the thunder is rumbling nearly non-stop and the lightning is flashing.  It is pouring down rain, too!  The first real rain of the summer here at our house, I told you we were having a wonderful summer.  It was 95* F out today, too!!  I am rushing this trying to finish it before the electricity goes out again.

The storm has passed over and everything is dark and quiet, and I still have my electricity.  The rain has stopped and I can see clear dark sky out with a few light clouds.  I think it's time for me to turn in.
Good night.

Cindy, isn't it good to stop, look, and listen to the wonderful sights and quiet sounds of nature? We have a rabbit that runs around in our yard, too. Have a great weekend. Shannon

Hi Cindy,

I had to read this a second time as you talked about reading outside and I thought you said in the evening ... which would not be possible here at this time of year, and then I remembered how far north you live! It is amazing how quiet it is without electricity causing the hum of machines we don't ever really hear unless the power is off. I love the view of your kitchen at night! Have a good weekend!

How wonderfully exciting to have a summer storm. We don't get them here in our valleys but we do in our local mountains but then I don't get to enjoy them. Glad all is well. That little bunny is so cute.

What a peaceful and restful day. I don't get to enjoy summer storms like that in my neck of the woods, but I do find myself surrounded by some furry friends in the rural area where I reside!

Hi Cindy,
I so wish we would have thunder storms here. They remind me so much of my childhood and our summer vacations to Mexico. The sounds and beauty of nature are just the best. Glad you were able to enjoy your quiet time. Have a wonderful day my dear friend.
