"2012" A New Year

Happy New Year my friends!!!  2011 is now behind us, onward and upward to better things in 2012.

Did you have a great Christmas?  I sure hope so.
Mine was a lot of fun!  One day this week I will blog about one very special gift that came from a very special bloggy friend.
Are you a person who makes New Year resolutions?  I do not, I gave that practice up a long time ago.
But I do set goals.

This is my hubby and I, we are off to church on the first day of 2012.  Heehee!  But seriously, how wonderful that we can spend part of the first day of the new year worshiping the Lord, with the people of God!!!

One of the goals we have for this next year is to redo the brick on our fireplace.   Many have suggested that I paint it.  But the trouble is, I really love brick, but NOT the brick that happens to be on our fireplace.

This is the look that I love, light colored mortar and a reddish brick. My son, the brick layer, has laid off his crew for the Winter and very soon now he will have some free time. When I was thinking of doing this and talking to him about it, I showed him my inspiration images from Pinterest, he said, "What you want mom, is reclaimed brick."  And I said, "Yes, that is exactly it!" And that is something that he is able to get! YAY for me!!!

Here are a few more inspiration photos, all from Pinterest including the first two.

I think the one above is my favorite because of how red the brick is. I love the look of red brick.

Aren't those walls gorgeous?

Well, I think you get the idea. That is goal No. 1. To reface our dark fireplace.
No. 2 is to repaint the living room. It is going to be a soft, warm off-white.  That will happen around the same time as the fireplace fix.

There are other goals that I set each year and I have achieved each year.  But, I will set the same ones this year and the next and the next, because some things are so worthwhile that they are worth doing endlessly.

Goal No. 1.  To spend time alone with God every day, talking to Him, listening to Him and meditating on Him throughout my day.
Goal No. 2.  To read the Bible through again.  Last year I read the Message translation, this year I think it will be the New King James Version.
Goal No 3.  To read, at least one book a month, a book about Spiritual things.  I desire to grow in God and this is one thing that really helps.  I know that we have to be very careful about what we read regarding Spiritual things.  My husband helps me find them.  He has a huge library filled with good books on various subjects, regarding spiritual matters.

That's about it.
Do you set goals?  If so, will you tell me at least one of them in your comment?  And tell me if you would be interested in hearing about each book as I read it, just a small synopsis of what it was about and what I thought of it.  I LOVE hearing from you, my dear readers.

Lastly and most importantly, thank you to all of my readers who have become friends and who make this blogging experience a wonderful, incredibly fulfilling  and ridiculously fun experience!!!

Happy New Year and happy today!!!

Warm hugs,

Funny thing, Cindy, I have always admired your's size, shape, and coziness. But I see now, looking again, the brick color which I never took note of before, and can see how you might like a lighter color. You mat remember I debated a long time about what to do with our fireplace. While I like white fireplaces, I'm glad we didn't paint ours. With a brick layer son, I'm sure he can come up with something!

Seems like your goals for the new year are right on and the most important ones. Wishing you many blessings in this new year!

Cindy dear, your fireplace is already very nice, but if you want to change it, you know what you do. Who knows better than you what changes can further embellish your already beautiful home? I really like the color of the photo with the white shelves and white plates, those bricks I like so much. Happy New Year to you dear Cindy. I hope you will achieve all your goals. a hug

Hi Cindy, Happy New Year! I think your fireplace will look great with the reclaimed brick. I love that look too. I don't make resolutions but, set goals like, do something each day-big or small, to keep myself learning and moving forward. I don't like to look back on a day and see that I had done nothing! Oh, yes, I'd like to hear a summary of the books you read this year.
Take care.

Hi Cindy..Happy New Year! I think your fireplace will look lovely with reclaimed of my favorites. The front of our house is reclaimed brick from a building which blew up in a gas explosion.
Looking forward to pictures of the changed living room.

Happy New Year, Cindy! OH, you and your hubby are so cute in your little sled! :)
We spent our morning in church too and the pastor challenged us to read the Bible through in a year. I haven't done that in some time and I believe I'll do it this year. I need to get a copy of The Message as i've heard it so easy to read!
Love hearing about your goals! Thank you so much for thinking of our little Carter. I'm still praising God!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

Happy New Year Cindy! I think the brick project will be right up your alley. It's totally you. As for the book reviews I would love it. I don't read the time I finish my day I find I have trouble concentrating. I know I'm missing out though so I would love to hear about what you are reading. Glad you're back. Have a good week!

Hi Cindy--
Oh I'd love to have some red brick in my home. Don't see it happening; but I sure do like your inspiration photos.
I don't make 'resolutions' anymore either. But I do try and take the time to process some goals; and set some new priorities, you know?

I like your goal to read the bible through in a year. I am going to try that myself.
Study more deeply and intimately the word of God --like you say.

I also would like to learn to TAT. I think I'm really going to try that this year.

take care- have a great start to a new year.

Oh, Cindy, 'thank you' for being such a great blogger friend! It's wonderful to visit a post where a kindred spirit and sister in Christ resides. I will continue to be a faithful follower in 2012.
Oh, and I love reclaimed brick too. I can't wait to see what your son does for your fireplace.
As for goals, I don't usually share them. Probably because when I don't accomplish them, I feel like such a loser!
Blessing to you in 2012.

Cindy, you have set some very worthy goals for yourself. I would like to accomplish some of the same ones but I can't promise they will be fulfilled. I will try very hard, though. I like the idea of reclaimed brick for your fireplace it should look very nice. There's not much extra time for reading these days so it would be nice if you do the reading for me. Heehee. I'm sure your reviews would be interesting. Thank you so much for demonstrating your love for our Savior by speaking about your faith and allowing that love to be extended to me and other blogging friends. I count myself lucky to have met you here. ---------Shannon

Hi Cindy, Wow sounds like a large project. I'm sure you will find the best way to give the perfect touch. IS important to have a space for recreation and reflection. I would like to hear about your readings. I read over and over again, but almost all my readings are related to the word of our Lord. Although between one thing and another I've read different things, I end up ranked in the word. It is a fascinating subject for me. Over time I see conscious life and with my glasses that I can make a spiritual distinction between reality and another. Besides that fills you spiritually to distinguish between the illusions and my weaknesses, so Cindy, I hope to see the great change and hear about your reading! hugs. Rose M

Ha ha Cindy, you are funny! Looks like you are enjoying the ride:)
Now to be a little more serious. No I hav'nt made any new year resolutions. I have done so in the past, but find that it's better to resolve to make improvements as the year progresses and as opportunities present themselves. You have set yourself some great goals and from what I have learned about you, you will manage to accomplish them. I loved all of the 'brick' pictures. I think the last is my favourite.
It's great to see you back and I will be looking forward to each of your posts throughout the year.
So pleased to know that your friends made contact.

One my goals for the house is to redo the boys' rooms upstairs to help organize all of their junk (ooops I meant to say stuff)!

I love the look of reclaimed brick or brick that's been painted and then power washed.

I stopped making resolutions and choose a focus word for the year and try to set some goals around that.

Happy New Year!

Hi Cindy!
So glad that you had a wonderful Christmas. I don't make resolutions either. I never keep them so what's the point? My main goal this year is to get my house reorganized! With my health issues, it has become total chaos! But I am going to tackle it, one room at a time. :)
I also love reclaimed brick. It has so much character. I am in love with that kitchen! Can't wait to see the finished look in your living room.
You've got my curiosity about the special gift you recieved and I can't wait to see it!
Have a glorious day!!
