A Painted Vintage Suitcase

I love before and afters, don't you?  Well, I have one for you today.  Some of you may have already noticed this, but if not, then here's one of my favorite touches for my newly redone living room.

Before:

After:

Another night photo, it's way too yellow, so sorry.

This is what the color is really like.

I added a darker turquoise craft paint to a bit of kitchen wall paint and painted the suitcase. I used a walnut stain on the stripe and the leather edging.  I rather like it, what do you think of it?  I purchased this at a garage sale for $2.00 two years ago.

I also refinished the stool, painting it with my homemade chalk paint and applying stain to the caning in the middle of the stool.  I found the stool at a garage sale for about $2.00, also.

We have said good-bye to Old Man Winter.  I took this photo about a month ago, it's down by the river where everyone walks.  We never did get a lot of snow and this week has been warm and sunny and now the ground is nearly bare.  I have really enjoyed this Winter and I'm a little sad to see it go.

Just for fun, I am joining Restored It Wednesday.
It's found at Restore Interiors.
I'm also joining Nita at Mod Mix Monday,
and Knick of Time Tuesday .

I hope your weather is warm and sunny.

Hugs,
Cindy

You are one daring lady! I have the same suitcase, but since I paid $20. for it I don't think I will paint it. But I love the way yours looks in your living room with the new slipcovers and paint job!

What a great idea that is. You have painted that suitcase very neatly and it looks so fresh and bright. Useful as a side table too!
Beautiful snow picture.

Oh...these turned out so great. Link them up to my party! Love how the white paint made them look. They look fabulous with your slipcovers.

Personally, I'm very timid about painting things, but always admire those who take the plunge...

I sure wish I could find an old suitcase or two like yours (cheap, of course)!

Amazing transformation. I'm not sure I would have thought of doing that...

Love the painted suitcase. I have one that is has a faded stipe across it & have often wondered if there was anything I could do about it. Perhaps I will paint it! (someday)It is also missing the handle..... I don't know what to do about that.
Something to think about :)

Hi Cindy, the suitcase and side table look great painted white. You are brave to paint the suitcase but I guess for $2. it's okay. :) It certainly adds more light touches to your living room. Pretty photo of the trail by the river. It's supposed to be in the mid-teen's here on the weekend into next week! Hugs, Pamela

Oh yes! I love it. You did such a neat and perfect job painting. The table is a perfect size for the suitcase. I have been looking for some sort of table for my suitcases. I do have an old luggage rack but have lacked the motivation you have to paint it!

Here in New York it was almost like we didn't have a winter this year!

You are brilliant! I never would have thought to paint the suitcase. I love the way it looks with your table now too. You are so fearless and have the nerve to try anything. I really admire that. It's very warm here today too. I'm sitting on my deck and it's in the seventies. Unbelievable for March!

I love how the suitcase turned out, Cindy! I never think of painting them! Spring has sprung here...all the snow is gone, ice is going out on the lakes, and it is in the 70's...so weird for mid-March!

Reading your blog again this morning I noticed the side table. DARLING! And by the way I meant to say in my recent comment - my suitcase has a faded 'stripe' across it :) Gotta love typos!
BTW - Love your winter picture - it is 'absolutely' beautiful!

That turned out lovely, Cindy! I like that you didn't paint it one solid color. I think it has more interest with the darker bits.
