UPDATE

Thanks so much my friends for praying for my daughter.

Her operation went well, but she has been dealing with a lot of nausea after the fact. She came home two days ago, and I've been finding a lot of things that the kids and I can do away from the house right now.

We started out at a school track at 9:00 this morning and I was able to walk around it for three quarters of an hour. It was wonderful!

We've been to every park in town and eaten out a few times. The kids are loving that! 

Things should get better from here on out.

Thanks again for praying for her and for your kind words, they mean a lot.

Blog Break

Hi!

It's another beautiful day where I am, and that's not in Manitoba.

I'm at my daughter's house again, not for a fun visit this time. But rather, to help her with the children.

At one time, I blogged about my oldest daughter, Carolyn, who had cancer when she was sixteen. She had to have her left femur and knee replaced with a medal rod and an artificial knee.

A piece in her knee has broken, and she's on crutches at the moment. But she is slated for surgery on Tuesday.

So I'm here to look after her two, (eight year old girl and five year old extremely active boy), and to take care of the house until she's back on her feet. Otherwise her husband would need to do it, and it's important that he is able to work, of course. 

That could be  several weeks, but that's what a mom is for, is it not?

(Her house is so pretty, I enjoy helping her with it. I love the ticking on her couch.)

 And of course I love all of them, so it truly is my pleasure.

That's what being a mom is all about.

I won't be around here for a very long time, though, as it's nearly impossible to spend time on the internet.

I'm exhausted by the time evening arrives and there is no stopping all day long.

I will try to come around and say hello to those who leave me a comment today. Other than that, I'm on break.

I would appreciate it if you could remember Carolyn in prayer on Tuesday, June the 26th.

Pink Peonies in June

Hello everyone, I hope you had a lovely weekend and relaxed with the Dad in your life. 

We have had the stomach flu for seven days now and we are officially DONE with it and ready for it to leave!!! On top of that I am doing respite work for a foster family and it has taken everything that I have in me to keep going. Okay, no more whining.

Are you like me and you LOVE peonies? These are the darker pink ones, my light pink ones are just about ready to open.

We are a bit behind many of you, here in Manitoba. I'm not sure what the other little white blossoms are, but we have lots of them on a vine next to the Lilacs that I showed you earlier. I love the scent of the Peonies, it's a spicy scent that fills my little screened in porch.

The weather has been perfect for spending time here. I haven't gotten around to painting the walls and ceiling yet, our plan is to paint it all white. And leave the wall that it shares with the house itself, the Celeron green that it already is.

 

I changed things around this year. Almost everything out here was either a garage sale find or a curb side find. It's my Flea Market styled room.

While at my oldest daughter's house I took a few photos of a corner in her living room. Her style is much like mine. She loves old things and white painted furniture.

Like me, she also likes birds and nests. She made and stenciled the "Have Faith" pillow.

Simple Tea Towel

Hi, I'm so glad you have come by.

I hope your week has started out well.

I want to show you a simple little tea-towel today.

This tea towel is simple but very, very special to me.

Little Miss B made this, she is my grand-daughter and she's eight years old. She has been learning to do needle work and I have to say that she is better than I am already.

 

Aren't the little canisters adorable?

My daughter knows I love anything that looks the least bit vintage.

It's perfect for my kitchen, don't you think?

When she gave it to me, she told me, "Now grandma, this is not to be used, it's meant to be hung up to look at, not to be used, okay?" I had to laugh! She's so funny! 

She's a girl after my own heart.

Lilacs in June

Is there anything prettier than lilacs?

I love them and no matter where you put them, they make everything around them look even lovelier.

This Spring has been exceptionally nice, with the right mix of hot sun and rain. My lilac bush has never produced so many blossoms, oh, how I wish they would last through the whole Summer. 

Sadly, the bushes are facing the alley. So, I go back there every day to gaze at their sweet blossoms, because I know they won't be around much longer. 

Lilacs were a favorite of my mother, she always longed for lilac bushes, when I was a kid growing up in the frozen north. That could be why I love them so.

A Pretty Wedding

Hello my friends,

I want to show you my nephew's wedding and a few photos of my family. 

But first of all thanks so much for the hearty "welcome back" that you all extended to me on Monday's post, you are what makes blogging so much fun.

My nephew was married on a campground outside of Hope, BC. 

It's set in the foothills and is a very pretty place to visit.There's usually a good chance that it will be raining there in May, but God answered the prayers of all who asked for a warm, sunny day, because it turned out to be a stunningly gorgeous day.

Buttons and book page flowers were her decor.

Brown, green and off-white with a bit of orange thrown in, were her colors.

My nephews stood up with the groom and my niece is on the far left. She stood up with the bride.

The wife of one of my nephews is in the middle, she is expecting their second baby and the two with her are my nieces.

My oldest brother with his wife are on the far left, the couple in the middle with baby are my nephew and his wife. He is the military chaplain that I have asked you to pray for in the past. On either side of them are my nieces and my daughter with hubby on the far right.

We had not all been together for about eight years. We had such a good time that day.

Seeing Nanaimo

Hello my friends, thanks so much for all of your wonderful comments on my last post.  That was three weeks ago and I just got back.

I was on a little vacation to see my family.

The first stop on my trip was Nanaimo, BC.  My oldest brother, Tim, lives there, I had not seen him in almost four years, and that was much too long.   Tim worked the three days I was there, but I had a fabulous time with my sis-in-law Rhonda and visited with Tim in the evenings.  She is a beautiful person, a very warm and loving friend and sister-in-law, whom I dearly love.  We talked almost non-stop for three days.  She has recently redecorated her house and I was able to hem three pairs of drapes for her and make one pair work far better for the window it was on. If I ever get a photo of it, I will show it to you.  For some reason, I only got a photo of her dining room. 

I neglected to take either one of my cameras, so these were all taken with my Blackberry. I am amazed at how well they turned out.

Nanaimo is on Vancouver Island, just two hours north of Victoria.

We went for a walk around the harbour and had fish and chips for lunch on a small boat that is permanently docked there.

It turned out to be a beautiful, sunny day.  The breeze keeps it nice and cool.

I got to meet two lovely bloggers that live on the island, Melissa of Mia Bella Vintage and Pamela of French Buttons.  We spent several hours together wandering around Duncan, where we had a delicious lunch and visited several thrift stores and even a vintage clothing store. I purchased a sweet little picture that I will show you one day.

I got to see Melissa's house, but alas, I didn't take any photos.  It's an absolutely beautiful older home that she and her husband have done all of the work on themselves.   Perhaps she will let me borrow some of her photos to show you in the future.  You will like them, I promise.

I have photos of my nephew's wedding to show you next time.  See you then.
