Autumn... You're Still the One

We are still enjoying Autumn, here in Manitoba, it's so pretty. We don't have many trees that turn red, but lots of yellow and gold ones are showing up and showing off.

Of course, my little hutch is ready for Autumn and

I'm really loving the orange with my turquoise walls.

Orange really pops against the pale turquoise.

Isn't this little old table cloth perfect for Fall? I found it years ago at a thrift store in Langley, BC. It sports cocky little roosters and a pumpkin patch. You can't get much more fall-ish than that.

I've been wanting to paint or stain that wooden crate that I got at Michaels a while back. But I am completely undecided as to what I want. 
One day I want to paint it dark turquoise, the next day a warm white and then I think it would be pretty in red or just stained a dark walnut... oh dear, what to do, meanwhile it looks rather nondescript, I'm afraid.
Any ideas?

Sunrise on Lake Winnipeg

Hello my friends, thank you so very much for all of your lovely comments on my last post. 

My husband and I are were in Gimli this weekend. The town of Gimli sits on the edge of what some say to be the seventh largest lake in the world, Lake Winnipeg. It is an hours drive from home.

Here are a few photos that my husband took of the lake.

The wind was blowing hard yesterday and the breakers were very high.

You can see the water here crashing over a cement wall on the left.

This is that same area this morning at daybreak, no waves crashing, just gulls.

My husband was up early to get photos of the sun rise.

We were in Gimli for a Minister's Retreat, but we're home now. Our speaker was Raymond Woodward from New Brunswick, I know my friend Fay knows him and his wife Beverly. This is myself on the far right and the other two are my sweet friends. The lady in the middle is Ruth, her husband pastors in beautiful Kenora and the lovely lady on the far left is Jane, my pastor's wife. Making memories!

Vintage Gifts from Nancy

Hello my friends!

As I visit around blog-land,I see that everybody is decorating so beautifully for Fall. 

Today I'm continuing with the Fall theme.

A sweet blog friend, Nancy of Durant House , sent me a darling little vintage enamel funnel clear from Iowa. I have hung it from a plate rack. Isn't it the cutest thing?

I down loaded the little picture with the verse and inserted it in this frame.

Nancy put a surprise in the package that she sent me, it's a little cream bottle. I have never seen one like this before. 

Thank you, dear Nancy, I will enjoy these little gifts for a long time.

Autumn Mantel and New Sign

Hello everyone,

it's beginning to feel like Autumn at my house, how about yours? It was down very close to freezing overnight!

In keeping with the season I have been adding orange to my rooms. Did you know that orange and turquoise are beautiful partners? Add in a little red and you have a happy combination, I think.

I have read that you should decorate a room or piece of furniture the way you want it, then stand back and remove one thing.

I stood back and removed the little pumpkins and gourds that I had put in front of the pictures.

Then I made a silhouette of a crow and added it.

The Autumn sign is something that I had seen on Pinterest. 
That took me no more than 15 minutes to make.

My little Sea-breeze fan has joined in the Autumn fun, it's sitting next to some sweet Fall flowers that I picked while on my  walk yesterday.

A clarification:

I put two photos of this beautiful old building on my post about "Lake of the Woods", stating that the building was in Kenora, Ontario.

My husband pointed out to me that it is actually in Morden, Manitoba. My mistake! I asked him to take this photo, then promptly forgot when and where that took place.

It's a beautiful example of Manitoba architecture from the early 1900's, most likely built out of Limestone from a quarry near Morden.

Okay, now I feel better!

Hello my friends,

I am excited to show you my latest find.

A free find.

This last weekend was "Giveaway Weekend" again, here in my fair city.

So, on Saturday my hubby and I toured our neighbourhood to see if we could find anything interesting.

We found a lovely old chest of drawers, but not much more.

I was disappointed and I told Ray, "One of these days I hope to find a Vintage Fan, I want one so badly." 

I hadn't even seen them in the antique stores here, so my hopes were not real high.

We continued on the other side of the main street in our area and what to my wandering eye did appear!?!?!

Yes, a little vintage fan.

Isn't it just adorable?

I plugged it in and it runs very quietly, such a delightful little thing!

A Visit to "Lake of the Woods"

Hello my friends,

Like many of you, my summer company is now gone, sadly, and things are returning to normal.

The only company we had was our youngest girl, Marissa.

Here we are, embarking on our journey around "Lake of the Woods". 

We were in Kenora, Ontario, over the Labor Day weekend. My hubby was preaching at a church there and so we were able to take in the sights with Marissa.

It was so much fun to show her a place that we've grown to love.

We had the pleasure of touring the lake on the MS. Kenora.

What a beautiful trip it was!

An island up close...

There are 14,542 islands on Lake of the Woods. And the majority of it lies within the borders of the USA.

This is a humongous house that is built on one of the many islands. The house is called the Castle.There are actually three house in this spot.

A cottage on a tiny island.

I would LOVE to spend my summer's there.

And we're back to the beautiful little town of Kenora.

The boat trip took an hour and a half, it went by so quickly.

The building above is an example of the architecture of the buildings built in the early 1900's there. 

The town started out with the name  Rat Portage. (The word "rat" actually referred to the many "Muskrats" that inhabited that area.) When the Red Rose Flour mill was in the plans to be built, the owners insisted that the name of the small town be changed. They knew they didn't dare put the word "rat" on a bag of flour and expect it to sell. So the town's name was changed to "Kenora".

So much prettier don't you think?

The weather has turned cooler here and I'm happy,

because that means I can enjoy a hot cup of tea again. There's nothing better than a hot cup of tea on a chilly, rainy morning.

The rain has stopped though, and the sky is blue!

It's 15 deg Celsius, (59 deg. F).
