O Christmas Tree

Happy last week before the week of Christmas!!!
I love Christmas!
My shopping is  done, what little there was, and my Christmas dinner shopping list is almost finished.
My son and his family will be at our home on Christmas Day.
I will also make dinner on Boxing Day for several people in our church who have no family here in our city.

This is going to be a better Christmas than many I have had, because we will have people around us during the holidays.

I don't have room for a nice big Christmas tree, so I have several little ones around the house.
This one is on top of the armoire and we have created "Christmas Mountain" up there.

I know it isn't real clear, but I worked on it for a very long time and this is the best I could get...not sure why.

This one is on the mantel.

There are two small undecorated trees on my sideboard.

I will leave you today with my all-time favourite Christmas album.
The beautiful Mahalia Jackson.
I LOVE her voice.

Who is your favourite singer of Christmas music?

Vintage Gifts

Hello my friends, I hope your week is going well.
And I hope you are feeling well...
I am feeling much better.
Thank you for your well wishes on my last post.

A friend of mine, Ruth, gifted me with this lovely set of bowls last weekend, an early Christmas present.
You can imagine my excitement when I opened the box.

They match the sweet little butter dish that I purchased while visiting my daughter this Fall.

And they are the opposite of the beautiful bowl that I found at Value Village for $5.99 a few months ago.

Now you understand why I was so excited when I saw them.
The bowls belonged to my friends mother, but she said she would find more joy from knowing that I have them and are loving them, than she ever got from them sitting in her cupboard.

Love at first sight!

Thank you so very much for coming by and leaving a sweet comment.
I appreciate you wonderful ladies!

Christmas Came Early

Hello friends,
I hope you had a good weekend and didn't get too much snow!
It has been cold here.
It is -24.5 deg. Celsius (12 deg below 0 Fahrenheit) outdoors this morning, and if there is any breeze it will feel much colder than that.
I am going to stay in today and try to get rid of this nasty cold that I seem to have gotten.
I was back to walking 45 minutes each morning and loving it, but not today.

Next Sunday my hubby will officially be pastoring our new church, so the kind people from the church we've been attending for the last four years gave us a bit of a going away at the annual Christmas banquet.
I want to show you a couple things that we were so generously given.

First, this runner was given to me by a sweet friend who loves to quilt and knows the colours that I use in my home.
Isn't it gorgeous?
I love it!

The mugs with the stags on them are large and are perfect for our morning coffee or hot chocolate in the afternoon.
And I cannot forget the Lindor chocolates, Lindor makes the best truffles ever, I think!

We also received money and gift cards.
The people of Truth Tabernacle UPC have been a tremendous blessing to us in the last four years.
We have learned to love them and they have so generously opened their lives and homes to us.
We will miss being a part of their lives on a weekly basis.
But best of all, the Lord blessed us with a Pastor and his wife who will be friends for life.

Later this week I will show you something else that I was gifted with...
it's something vintage...

Thank you for coming by and leaving such sweet comments.
I appreciate each and every one of YOU!

Christmas Lights

Hello my friend,
I am writing to you tonight from a very snowy Winnipeg.
It started to snow yesterday afternoon and has not let up since.
We have gotten a good six inches today alone.
We don't usually get huge snowfalls at one time,
so this is a wee bit unusual.
We now have a foot of snow on the ground.

The lights are up...

The tree is on its way home... in my Christmas village.

And I've already redone above the mantel.
Have you been busy doing and re-doing?

Vintage Christmas Pretties

Hello my friends, I hope you had a good weekend.

Saturday was a lazy day for us,
so hubby and I stopped in at GW for a few minutes.
And what to my wondering eyes did appear,
but a Santa Mug!

Isn't it cute?
I love these and have decided to collect a few.
Hubby did not agree, (with the cute factor)
in fact he completely agreed with the sticker that is on the bottom of the cup...

Now who would think such a thing and
then tag it as such?!
Hahaha, I think it is very funny.

I was very happy to find this... is vintage and slightly tacky, but that is what
I love about it.
Now to find a place for it.

Here is a darling little pillow that you can make.
Be sure to check out Robins blog,
Happy At Home, for the tutorial.
I really want to do this one.

Are you following any of the Christmas Home Tours?
This is a really great one.
The "Home for the Holidays"  tour starts at
Worthing Court.
It is a tour of six different homes starting today, Monday through Friday.

Have a good week and be sure to do something
fun. every. day!

A Glimpse of Christmas

Hello my friends,
I have been very busy and a little under the weather.
But it's time to get back to blogging.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, how do you girls do it day after day after day?!?!?!

I just can't.

My mantel at 6:30 at night, you can see how dark it is already at that time!

Winter descended on us very quickly a
few of weeks ago and I've not "bored you" or should I say, "shown you" any of my winter photos yet.
I have to say, that I LOVE the snow and I love walking in the snow while it is falling from the sky.
It is truly miraculous when you think about it!

The photo above was taken a few days ago.

This one, above was taken yesterday... you can see that it was snowing when I took it...

...this last one was taken today.
The sun was shining, most of the sky was blue with  fluffy clouds that were emitting very fluffy snow.
AND... the moon could be seen,  if you look in the centre above the tree tops, just below the fluffy clouds you will see it.
Did you see it?

It was a great day for walking.
It wasn't cold, so I was happy!!!

One bit of news... my hubby was, just last week, voted in as pastor of a church here in Winnipeg!
I am very excited about this.
He has not pastored for the last four years, but it was time to get back to it.
And God worked it out perfectly, like He tends to do!

Have a good weekend my friends, and thank you so much for coming by!

Vintage Decor Guest Post from Eva

Hello my friends,
today I am doing something entirely different.
I have invited Eva Stephens from Home Decor to do a guest post for me. She is a fairly new blogger who has many creative ideas to share on her blog.
I have been busy painting our basement and have not been posting for over a week.
I know you will enjoy what Eva has to say.

Hi, I am Eva from Home Decor. Today I will be sharing some vintage decor ideas with you. Cindy has been kind enough to invite me to bring forward my thoughts. Hope you enjoy them. Happy Reading!

There are many ways to decorate a home, depending on the size of your pocket and your aesthetic preferences. People with a surplus of money and lack of time might prefer to hire experienced decorators and buy luxurious, expensive furniture because that is how they make sure they will get quality.

People without resources to spare rather learn how to do many of the house renovation jobs themselves and they do a thorough research when looking for furniture that is both affordable and decent. Though it might seem like people with more money will certainly have more attractive homes, that is not necessarily so. Good taste and resourcefulness can’t be bought.

Vintage never goes out of style

One thing that many people interested in home decoration have in common, regardless of their financial situation, is this: they all love vintage. Vintage is the style that never goes out of style and the best thing is that it can look as good in big, rich mansions as in small, cosy apartments.

What do we mean by vintage? What comes to mind are comfy, rustic armchairs in brown leather, intricate chandeliers, black-and-white photos in painted-wood frames, deck flooring, dried flowers in a simple vase, antique-looking mirrors, decoupage boxes or suitcases used as coffee tables, etc.

DIY vintage ideas

If you’re at least a little creative and enthusiastic about your home and how you want it to look, you’ll find the Internet an amazing source of inspiration for easy DIY tutorials on how to freshen up your furniture, walls, stairs and other parts of your house.

Pinterest comes to mind as number one place to start. With lots of photos and tips on vintage decoration, we’ll end up with more ideas than we’ll ever be able to carry out. One thing that dominates these photos is the colour white. It seems that vintage fans like their walls and wooden furniture to be painted white, though there are usually other colours around the room to break the white up a little and bring in some exciting dynamic, warmth or anything else a host wants in his or her home.

Warm earth colours are also frequently displayed on walls and floors of vintage decorators, but there are always some surprising colours present as well and some examples of that are: a black sculpture or lampshade, big red pillows, fuchsia curtains, etc.

Creativity goes a long way

Many people engage in DIY home-decoration activities because they are fun and because these people have learned that decorating doesn’t have to be complicated at all. With little imagination and spare time, you can end up with the most impressive home for showcasing. Here are 3 short tips on how to create unique pieces of furniture:

#1 Find an old, big suitcase that you can decorate using napkins and decoupage technique. Place it in your living room where it will serve as your coffee table. Or you can use it as a dresser.

#2 Use white paint to paint an old wooden photo frame. Wait for it to dry, then repaint it some other colour – for example, blue or gray. When it dries, sand of the edges until the white paint starts showing through. Place a black-and-white photo of you or your family inside the frame and hang it on your wall.

# 3 Cover your sofa and armchairs with white covers and white pillows, then place an orange lamp or some other decoration on the coffee table next to your white furniture.

These are the simplest possible ideas on how to “vintage up” your home. Trust your instinct and soon you’ll create a home that you’ll completely fall in love with.

Thank you Eva, for filling in for me today.

I hope to get back to posting real soon.

Vintage 45 RPM Records Display

Hello my friends,
While visiting with my oldest daughter last year, I came across several 45 RPM's at a garage sale.
I bought four of them, but I haven't found a way to display them.

These two songs are on one of the 45's, take a listen, it will take you back, waaaaay back.
Unless you are simply too young to have ever heard these songs, that is.

I think I will leave these little records of yesteryear here in the red tote.
They do seem to fit right in, don't they.

As you see, I already have the warm plaid blankets out.
They are very cozy.

I hope you are enjoying your day.
Our temps are down to freezing today, 32 deg F and 0 Celsius.
So far we have no snow on the ground, but the weather man is promising a cm of snow today.
I think we can handle that.
Thank you once again for coming by,
I hope you enjoyed the little musical interlude.
