Grey and Yellow Master Bedroom

Hello my friends.
Last week I mentioned that I had been to our brand spanking new IKEA store... it's fabulous, btw.
And while there I decided upon what I would do with our master bedroom.
It needs a lot of help, but with the help of a Gift Card that our dear son, the brick layer, and his family gave me for Christmas, we were able to purchase a few things that have improved it tremendously.

First of all, though, I had to get my paint brush and paint clothes on.
I used a good primer and I painted over both headboard and chest with the grey mis-tint that I purchased for $7.50 a quart at a lumber store. I left lots of white showing, and distressed it, in order to get the look that I wanted.

I already had the headboard, we purchased it about ten years ago, it was a (lovely?) knotty pine
The chest was a curbside find. So it was free!

The walls were already yellow and the yellow pillow covers were my picnic tablecloth.
I happened to see it sticking out of my picnic basket and the rest is history.
My daughter suggested today that I make a monogrammed pillow for the middle of the pillows. A project for tomorrow.

The black and white pencil sketches are perfect in here. I hung them low because new, smaller lamps are on the "wish list".

I picked up the grey and white checked comforter for $13.99, at IKEA and I found the single grey, linen drapery panel for $2.00, both of those came from the AS IS room. The panel was originally in a package of 2 for $50.00 or so. Not bad, eh?
The sheers are lovely with scalloped edges and were only $15.99 for two panels.

This little chair fits nicely into the corner.

I put a vintage dresser scarf on the chest of drawers with a little old lamp that doesn't have a shade. It reminds me of when I was a kid, when naked bulbs were common. It makes me smile to see it. I will change it out when we purchase the lamps that we want at Ikea.
The old frame that has an old mirror behind it, originally had a picture of my great-grandfather in it.
The glass broke and the picture is falling apart, but I love the look of the old frame.
And the grapevine wreath was inspired by my friend/blogger Robin. She has several in her home and they look great.
I'm pretty happy with my room now.
Next up, will be the closets that we've picked out at Ikea.
What you can't see is that right behind the little white chair are all of our clothes.
I do not like the open closet system that former owners of our little bungalow installed.
They are U-G-L-Y!
I have confidence that it will be fixed in time, though.

I woke up this morning to temperatures of -35 Celsius and with the windchill it was -44 C.
But, the sun is shining and the sky is blue!
That's the beauty of living in Manitoba.

I do hope it's warmer at your house, though.

I'm joining Mod Mix Monday, check the lovelies over there!

IKEA! Ohhhhhhhhhhh. It's a lovely place isn't it? My new husband and I are living in an older home that belonged to his grandmother and I've been trying to figure out a few ways to spruce this ol' place up. I plan to make a trip to IKEA very soon!

Oh Cindy, your bedroom is so pretty. I love the colours and how you found such great things at IKEA. I love the painted headboard and dresser. You are great with redecorating on a dime! It's cold here too but not as cold as Manitoba! Yikes. That is way too cold for me. Keep warm my friend. Hugs, Pam

I really enjoy the way you change things in your home Cindy. It would take great courage for me to paint some of my wooden furniture but when you switch things about and take pictures of your new environment, I feel as if i'm thumbing through a house and home magazine. Keep smiling!

As you know I love yellow and gray together as in our new guest room. Yours looks lovely. I can tell you are enjoying IKEA. The faux plant on my mantel was from there recently. I'm wondering if you painted the little design on the front of that curb-rescue chest of drawers. I love your white chair too. I've had one like that in the past and I'm wondering where it is now .. oh yes, my sister has it, now painted black.

You have made me want to visit an IKEA store...I've never been! The window treatments are lovely and a good bargain. Do you have a teddy for the chair that could wear a bright yellow bow tie???

Grey & Yellow are such a lovely combination - somehow the yellow makes grey almost a happy color...or at least offers just the right amount of balance. Thank you for checking my blog out's so nice to see visitors :)

That is a room that I always seem to ignore when decorating. It seems to become such a drop-off point for all our stuff. Yours is lovely! I really need to get busy.

Your new cozy looking room should keep you warm with temps that low! yikes.

Your room is looking so pretty. I love the colors on the headboard and sidetable. I also love the pencil drawing haning over the lamp. I have been wanting to so something similar in my room for a while and you've reminded me to get working on it.

I really like the sweet white chair sitting my your new curtains. It's such a simple thing to do but I think it is an amazing look. Oh and I'm loving your white wreath -wink- It looks great layered over the dark frame like that.

I wish we had an IKEA close by. :( Your bedroom looks wonderful. Isn't it amazing what a coat of paint can do...and a mistint at that!!

Very pretty. I can see a peek of your open closet in the mirror reflection. We rented an apartment that the bathroom sink was right in the only bedroom -thankfully the tub and toilet were in an alcove and at least semi private.
Ikea looks like a perfect store for you.

Beautiful bedroom Cindy and the colors you combo you did it in, is fabulous! I'm getting inspired as we need to redo our master bedroom too and I love the grey with yellow touches like the pretty pillows. Ikea is great, we don't have that store here, unfortunetelly, but very fine furniture stores for all tastes. Thank you for dropping by me sweet friend.
