Vintage Radio and the "Blizzard of 2013"

Hello my friends!
I can now say that I survived the "Blizzard of 2013"!
We had high winds and several inches of snow fall on Friday and early Saturday. The roads were closed and my truck driver husband was stuck out on Hwy 1 all day Saturday.

No worries, though, we were on the phone together and email. Thank God for the smart phones. Most of all, thank God for His watchful eye and protective power.

His truck was warm and snug, but I had not sent enough food with him.

He was very hungry when he arrived home 15 hours late. He sent me the photo above halfway through the day. "The view from where I sit", his e-mail read. He was sitting in a row of trucks...waiting.

Our oldest daughter and her husband gave us the vintage radio for Christmas.
I love it and enjoy listening to CBC radio as I eat my breakfast.

It has a very nice sound and the dial lights up.
I think it's from the 1940's, but I haven't seen one like it on-line, despite searching for it.
It's an RCA Victor in a dark jade colour.

I've been tweaking the kitchen and painting the bathroom.
And I took a couple of trips to our new IKEA store! I'm so excited that it's open. My son and his wife had given me an IKEA gift card for Christmas and it's just a 30 minute drive away.
I will soon be able to show you what I purchased while at IKEA.
What have you been up to?

The sun is shining today and it's a chilly -14 degrees Celsius here.

Have a wonderful day!

So glad your husband is safe and sound. And Yes! Thank God for His protection and for our SmartPhones :)

Your radio is wonderful. It reminds me of one my grandfather had beside his easy chair. I can see him yet--shaving with his electric shaver while listening to farm reports...

I love your new "old" radio. I still love listening to the radio. We have a local station that hs great speakers all day. We have yet to get any snow for Winter...do not want a a blizzard...but just a few good snow days would be great. So glad your husband made it home safe...Blessings!

Oh Cindy, I am so thankful you and your husband are safe from the storm.
I can just imagine how hungry your husband might of been. Both doing nothing and being make me want to eat so I would of been starving too.

Have fun at Ikea, they are no where near OK but I like seeing other bloggers share their goodies from Ikea.

stay warm! It is cold here but now snow

The radio is great! I would like to have one to listen to Christian worship music when I am home.
Glad you and your hubby weathered the storm. I'll bet he was hungry! I do enjoy feeding people!

What a great old radio! I remember having an old tube style radio when we were kids. We could pick up radio stations all over the eastern US. So fun! I'm glad your hubby got home safely. Modern technology is great when we can communicate that way even if the power is out. It is sunny and beautiful here today but much colder at -2 than our +8 we had yesterday. No wind though so I don't mind. Lucky you to have an Ikea there now. I love that store! I went to Bible study this afternoon and we are doing Beth Moore's study on David - Seeking a Heart Like His. Have you done any of Beth's studies? Have a great afternoon. Hugs, Pam

I love your vintage radio!

Glad you survived the storm. We've had snow here too but not nearly quite as much. It is cold though.

Oh Cindy! first I had a chuckle...because I just posted on my blog...Kindles Vs. Smart Phones...for a different reason of course...but the irony was not lost on me!

Anyway--we are having really cold temps here too! Not negative temps though. Only in the 30's...which would be warm to you I'm sure...well, no, I'm not sure. I'd have to do the math; I'm not good with the C° vs F°...but to me, it's cold. And wet. Dallas, and areas north of us had snow today...ours was a constant drizzle.

The radio--is so cool. I love it! It looks like a vintage photo in the black and white--at first glance you can't tell that picture is taken in the 21 century!
I know you enjoy it. I bet you enjoy Ikea too.

...I ramble, take care, stay warm- Pat

Hi Cindy! OH, my, I'm so glad your hubby is home safe and sound. The snow and ice on the roads can be so scarey! Isn't it just amazing to have phones so we can stay in touch. My husband used to travel five days a week before cell phones and would have to stop to call me and let me know where he was.
Love your cute little olden radio! Now I love the glass with the candy canes in it. I was thinking about those kinds of candy canes this year and remembering how nice it was to eat them. Kinda soft and very candy caney tasting! :)
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

Your radio has a very familiar look. Maybe from the 50s? Of course if I am remembering it from my childhood, it could have been an old radio, hence from the 40s. It's amazing yours still works and comes in so clearly. We used to sit around the radio, not the TV!

Your husband must have been glad to get home to a warm home and hot food! You would be very pleased to see him.
Lovely old radio, and it works! I can remember seeing similar in my childhood days.
Keep well and warm, Betty

Ikea is one of my favorite stores! Isn't it exhausting walking the whole store and the downstairs in one trip. I always have to stop at the cafe and get a cinnamon bun and coffee to recharge.

The radio is so cool!
