Black and White Photo Challenge

I am joining A Personal Photo Challenge for the Black and White Photo Challenge today.
Like many, I love black and white photos and I also love Lake Winnipeg.

Here is Lake Winnipeg in black and white, taken with a Nikon D80.

And now in colour.

There is a wharf that extends out into the lake to make a safe place for boats to dock. Very strong winds often hit this huge lake, some say to be the 7th largest in the world, and the boats need a safe place to dock.

This is the wall surrounding the docking area, in black and white.

These photos were taken at Lake Winnipeg last September, on a very stormy day.

And now in colour.

See how high the water was flying, way above the wall.

Here I am in black and white the day after the storm, peering over the wall. It was still windy, but nothing like the day before was.
There are still a few white caps.

~the boats at sunrise~

My husband took all of these photos.

As soon as the ice is off of Lake Winnipeg, I want to go out for a visit.
I miss the water.

I hope your weekend is going well.

Thank you for stopping by.
See you next week.

Stop by A Personal Photo Challenge to see more black and white photos.

Beautiful photos of your lovely Lake Winnipeg. My favourite is also the one he took of you peering over the dock wall. Wishing you a great weekend. The sun is shining here and the snow is beginning to melt.

There is something so emotive about a black and white photo, though I don't think we thought that so much years ago when that was all there was. Yours are so nice and I actually prefer them in black and white! You did a great job! Hope you get to the lake soon!

Such a grand place. Would you look at the size of those waves! Gosh, that is an interior lake, right? Love the crashing again the sea wall like that. My favorite of the photos is the one with you looking out over the wall. Wonderful perspective shot. The B&W really helps to highlight the soft texture of the clouds too.

One of these days I need to find my way up to your lake.
Love your photos especially the pier with the boats.

Ooohhh....I like the wall best in B & W! The photos of the lake are prettier with the beautiful blue sky! It's fun to experiment though isn't it? Enjoy your weekend!

Truly wonderful photos...my favorite is the final one and that has me thinking that there's no way a black and white would do it justice. However, the waves crashing in look even more intense in black and white. They're very impressive!

I love how black & white photography changes an image. The black & white versions are striking, the colour, not so much. Amazing.

Beautiful photos.

I can't wait for spring...

These are really beautiful photos Cindy. It's amazing to see the power in the waves even on a lake. It looks like a storm tossed sea. Your husband takes great photos! I'm glad you joined the photo challenge.

Hi Cindy, Lovely photos, I love Black and white photography but I really struggle to take crisp clear photos with my Canon 500. Hoping for warmer weather for you so you can venture outdoors! Sharon x

I was going to say I love the photo of the wall but then I scrolled down and could not decide at all. They are fabulous shots. He has a great eye!! I love the water too Cindy...something so calming for me being next to water.

Love seeing the color shots along with the BW...I love the waves rolling in! Enjoy your day!

I think I like your water photos better in colour - there appears to be more depth for sky and surroundings.
The waves crashing against the wall make the photo more sinister in B&W; I like it better.
It's been nice to compare the two that people are posting and decide which we like best, and why.

This is a great idea for a blog topic. It's tough to think of ideas when we're surrounded by a world of white. Hope that you're keeping warm, As my friends on the coast keep saying, "At least you're on the downside of winter". Thats true but it does still seem so far away!

I love the wall by the dock in black and white. It's graphic and perfect! Great shot! I like all of them, but I really like the wall!

Hi Cindy,
These are beautiful photos of Lake Winnipeg!
I was in Winnipeg once when I was a teenager and I thought it was an amazing city too.
Thanks for your sweet comment.
It meant a lot. I see a lot of expensive homes on blogs and I know that I can't have that. But trying to have a nice home on a tight budget is something I think a lot of us can relate to.
Thanks again,
Cindy
