The Mother of the Bride Dress

A few weeks ago, I showed you an inspiration photo of a dress that I wanted to make for my sister.
My niece in Montreal is getting married and my little sis needed a pretty dress.
She lives in northern BC where there is very little shopping.
So...I decided that I wanted to make her a dress.
And I have.

It is nearly finished.

As you can see in this one, the hem is not finished.

It has some very pretty details.

And I am pretty happy with it.

It's been ages since I've done an invisible zipper,
I struggled with that, but in the end, it looks not too, too bad.
The belt will have pearl buttons on the back.

The dress is a size six.
If my sister had been any smaller I would not have been able to use my new dress form with it.
And that would have been a very big problem.

I am going to put a bow out of the same fabric on the belt and see what she thinks.
The red dress was my inspiration.

My sweet youngest daughter has been with us this week, and she was kind enough to leave me to sew while she fixed meals and cleaned up after them.
That was a tremendous help.

My thoughts and prayers have been with the people in Oklahoma ever since that terrible tornado tore through their town.
I have cousins that live in that area, but I heard that they are safe and sound.
I thank the Lord for that, but my heart aches for the parents who have lost their children...

After experiencing rain for three days, the weather here is now in the upper 70's and it's breezy and sunny, the grass is green and the tulips are blooming.
The leaves are coming out on the trees and the river is slowly receding.
Spring has truly arrived!

What is your weather doing?

Cindy, you talent is a beautiful (and very practical) one! How pleased your sister will be.

If it weren't for the pleasant breeze this evening, it'd be downright hot. I think it's time for rain here. The farmers have had some good weather for planting. Now all that's needed is some gentle, steady rain.

Cindy, this dress is just beautiful! I love the cream lace and the styling and I'm sure your sister will be very pleased. You are a beautiful seamstress! I'm glad your family is safe in Oklahoma. What a terrible tragedy to go through. It's been cool and rainy here and not nice spring weather at all. Everything is so green though and the apple blossoms will be blooming soon. We just need some sun and warmth. Blessings and hugs, Pam

the dress is just beautiful!

Oklahoma is a sad place to be right now, but even in the sorrow, good things are happening too. The Red Cross has more volunteers than it can use, donations are pouring in both small and some huge from athletes and companies,
Okies are tough and have faith, there is already talk of how everything will be rebuilt.

It's raining here. What's new?!! LOL
It is supposed to rain for a couple of days and then be sunshine again. I've read that it is going to be a warmer summer in the interior than usual.

The dress you've made for your sister is beautiful. The lace is gorgeous and I'm sure she will really love it. Well done!

Hi dear Cindy, wow your dress is beautiful, stunning! You must feel so pleased with the result! I too have been watching the news on Oklahoma and it's such a tragedy...Our weather in the south of England is miserable! grey skies, cloudy, no sun and a bit cold and it doesn't look likely to clear up for our bank holiday Monday either! Enjoy the rest of the sewing! Sharon x

I've seen it in progress since the day you started it, and I still can't believe how swiftly you were able to create such a beautiful piece of work. It is even prettier in person! You are one talented lady, and I hope that God provides a way for you to turn your talent into business. Besides, you might need practice for when I'll need a wedding dress made for me somewhere down the line. :) Love you.
