Trophy Fishing in Manitoba

It's continuing to be a busy, very fun summer.

My two oldest grandkids and I visited the Winnipeg zoo last week.

There were butterflies inside the conservatory...

...a cool butterfly chair...

...lots of gophers darting in and out of their tunnels...

...a herd of caribou lead by a male with antlers nearly as large as he was, I don't know how he held his head up!

There were very shy (or unhappy) Black African Penguins...

...and several male peacocks strutting around.

During one of my walks I took this photo at The Purple House.

This was taken a month ago...

but the one below was taken this weekend!
My hubby is taking his holidays at the North Haven Lodge where Marissa is working this summer. It is at a fly-in-only lodge on a pretty lake here in Manitoba.

My husband is on the right, he caught a 41.5 inch Northern Pike and it is trophy size!!!
The fellow holding the fish is their guide, Marissa also caught a trophy Northern Pike.

They've had beautiful weather and great success!
He won't be home for a few more days and he is having the time of his life.
North Haven on beautiful Utik Lake is a wilderness camp and is mostly visited by Americans, rich Americans, I might add.
One of those trips is not cheap, thankfully my hubby is there on a family pass.

Have a wonderful day... one day soon I will show you what I picked up at a garage sale recently.
It's a set of beautiful vintage china!!!

Thanks so much for coming by!

A Visit to the Mennonite Heritage Village

I'm back!
It's been a busy summer and so I've not been blogging at all.
But, my grandkids talked me into it today.

I've been looking after my oldest grands for a few weeks now.
I went to our Church Camp for a wonderful and inspiring week and then I did some respite work for a foster family who needed to get away for a family vacation.
That week was an exhausting, fun, sad and happy time.

Today I'll show you what I did with my grands a few weeks back.

We visited the Mennonite Heritage Village in Steinbach, MB.

Here Jonathan is behind the teacher's desk in an English school that the Mennonite children attended in a nearby town many years ago.

Jonathan was having fun.

Here I am with a statue of a woman, commemorating the hard working Mennonite women of the past.

Naomi standing outside of one of the log homes.
This house had a barn connected to it.
Because of the harsh winters that farmers endure in Manitoba, having the barn connected to the house meant that during blizzards the farmer did not get lost trying to get to or from his barn.
We were concerned though, that the barn might make the house smell a bit like the animals.
Not too appetizing, eh?

I had to get in on the fun, too!

This pig is pushing the handle that turns on the water with his nose and the water was dripping into his mouth.
I thought this was pretty funny.

As you can see we had a lot of fun.

An old Summerfelder Mennonite Church, Jonathan was trying out the pulpit for size.

He'd like to drive away in this beautiful old car.

A view of the beautiful grounds that the Village is on.

We are having a beautiful summer here in Manitoba, it's been hot with some rain, but not too much.
What kind of summer are you having?

I will do my best to get around to visit you in the next week.

Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment!

Mother of the Bride Dress

Some of you will remember that I made a dress for my sister for her daughter's wedding.
See that post here.
The wedding was a week ago and my sis wore her lovely dress and received lots of compliments.
That makes me so happy because my little sis has been through some really difficult places in life, but she has come through smiling, with a positive attitude and still loving God.

Her son is walking her to her chair.
I think she looks so pretty.
Susan is a natural blonde and stays very active,
she's 18 months younger than myself.

Her daughter is a very special girl, I love her so much.
I was heart broken not to make it to her wedding, but some things just are not possible.
Her two boys flank her and the bride and groom.

Susan sent me a beautiful photo that was taken by a friend of Susans'.
This was taken on the coast of Washington near where I was born.

To me, this is the most beautiful place in the whole world.
It's probably native land, so we would not be allowed to go here.

I am gone for the next week, I won't be around, but I will visit you as soon as I possibly can.

Have a wonderful week!!!

Here is something that someone sent me, it was too cute not to pass on.
"Senior version of Jesus Loves Me"

Here is a new version just for us who have white hair or no hair at all. For us over middle age (or even those almost there) and all you others, check out this newest version of Jesus Loves Me.

Jesus loves me, this I know,
Though my hair is white as snow
Though my sight is growing dim,
Still He bids me trust in Him.

Though my steps are oh, so slow,
With my hand in His I'll go
On through life, let come what may,
He'll be there to lead the way.

When the nights are dark and long,
In my heart He puts a song.
Telling me in words so clear,
"Have no fear, for I am near."

And life's victories have been won.
He will take me home above,
Then I'll understand His love

I love Jesus, does He know?
Have I ever told Him so?
Jesus loves to hear me say,
That I love Him every day.

Alayne's Garden

Hello to all my former friends and my new friends!
Happy 4th of July to my American readers, I am wearing red, white and blue today to celebrate your great country. As you may know I was born in the state of Washington and lived in the USA for about 12 years, and I still very much love and feel like an American. I love living in Canada, but once an American, always an American, I say.

I enjoyed a delightful visit to my new friend Alayne's house and garden.
Her garden is gorgeous.
I've made a collage to show you the many different areas.
She and her husband Allan have created three different ponds that have Coy and Goldfish in them and have roses, lilies, foxgloves, lady slippers and many, many more plants.
Notice the small white cottage in the background of some of the photos, Alayne is creating a little hideaway there.
It will be decorated in the shabby chic, cottage style.
I can't wait to see it finished.
It will be lovely.

I'm afraid PicMonkey was not cooperating, but I did come up with the above.
I'm still new at making collages.

In case you missed it,
Alayne found my blog and ultimately my home due to the Romantic Homes June issue that mentioned my blog.

She only lives a short walk away from me and I have visited her twice since meeting her.
She and her husband are very hospitable and are a delight to know.
I hope you enjoyed seeing her lovely garden.

I've started a summer job, looking after my 11 and 12 year old grandchildren, so I'm afraid my visits will be spotty.
Have a wonderful week!
