A Vintage Vibe

Hello friends,
I have done absolutely NO decorating or even
rearranging this summer.
I have been busy with my oldest grandchildren and have
not even thought about it.
But, this is our August long weekend here in Manitoba and I got to hankering (do you ever hanker?) after a more Vintage feel/look in my kitchen.
I quickly rounded up my red, turquoise and milk glass and here is what I came up with.

The bread box was my mothers, I think it's from the 50's.

And one thing leads to another.
I had been using a red blanket (I'm embarrassed to say) on the windows to your right and so I made a quick pair of panels for them out of an old sheet that I had on hand.

Can you see the red rick-rack that I sewed to the bottom of them?

This window is going to get the same, I think.
The white with rick-rack is oh-so vintage, don't you think?

On days like today when it is 28 deg Celsius or 80 deg Fahrenheit, the sun shines hot and bright through all of these windows.

The chair got a little red and white polka-dotted chair pad made for it...

...and I made a little red and white polka-dotted runner for the table, too.

I'm sorry the photos are dark, the sun is too brilliant for photos, but now or never...

Have you done any projects around your house lately?
Or have you just been enjoying the sun and the remaining days of summer.

I hope you are enjoying your summer!
Thank you for coming by!

These are photos of where my husband went fishing last week.
Gorgeous scenery up there!

Your kitchen looks so fresh and pretty. I like the new curtains with the rick-rack. I haven't done much to the house this summer - too busy outside, but come September....watch out!

Cindy
I love the fresh touches you've added to your kitchen.
Rick Rack and polka-dots, how can you go wrong? And red and aqua-sweet!

Your kitchen is dreamy.

Hi Cindy, your hankering resulted in a really pretty room. Our schedules are opposite. I have had my grands much less this summer and have had time to do cleaning out and organizing and a little decorating.
But school starts here next week and my days will be full with babies while their parents teach and older siblings will be in school full time too.

There is not much cuter than your Rick rack and polka dots.

I am in love with your kitchen - oh, those built ins!

I love red so all your little red touches are great.

I have been doing projects all summer, but I don't have any grands to play with. I would love to have little ones to read to, do crafts with, take to the beach and build sandcastles. Maybe someday!

I am wowed by your cottage kitchen! For being busy with grandchildren this summer, you sure accomplished a lot in one day! Love everything about your kitchen. It looks charming and vintage and I love the color combinations! What is the kitchen wall color? It looks like a pale, pale turquoise? I'm getting ready to paint by 1950's vintage bathroom. It has original black and white tile (mostly black) and I think I'd like to paint the walls a pale turquoise. I'm following your blog now.

Hi Cindy, love the turquoise and red touches, it looks really vintage. It suits your house and your kitchen very much. Don't blush at using a blanket at the window. I have a fabulous book called Outside Inside by Helen Ellery, available on amazon, and she uses thick blanket blinds in her London home....I like the red rick rack on the curtains it looks lovely. Have a lovely week. Sharon

It looks so great, Cindy! I LOVE that breadbox and your curtains looks so cute with the ricrac trim! I've done several things and found no time to blog about them. Summer has been so busy, it seems--and then our little guy got sick and we all just stopped to enjoy him not knowing what the future held. I guess sometimes it takes something like that to slow one down. Now my garden is producing and I have so much to put up before school starts back!

Not doing to much around the house here. Hope all is well with you!

Hi Cindy,
Me too...I have not been blogging all summer,my brother was very ill and Gary's Uncle passed away so we were driving three days a week to see him until his passing. Lots going on here with family so blogging has taken a backseat. I miss you!!! I hope all is well, as always your kitchen is a delight and feast for the eyes.
Have a sweet day, sending you hugs. Elizabeth

Hi Cindy--
Yes! I HANKER. :)
I am longing to get back outside and do some Fall gardening...it is so hot right now. I wish is were in the 80's here. We're reaching into triple digits this week. So 89 would be cool. :)
I think the touches of red throughout your cottage is cheerful.
The lake where your hubby was fishing...looks peaceful and serene.
Have a wonderful wrap up to your week. Pat

Hi Cindy! I love your new curtains with the red rickrack trim. The new red and turquoise touches are so pretty and I always love vintage things. The bread box is cute! I do like to re-decorate in mid-summer too but since we're away it most likely won't get done. Fall decor will be next! Ha! I really don't want to think about it! Enjoy the weather there. Calgary is cool, sun/cloud/showers. :( And NB is nothing by rain it seems! Hugs, Pam

Cindy I enjoyed looking through your summer blog postings. it's not surprising that you enjoyed your grandchildren's company so much that you set blogging aside. but true to form, you are a decorator at heart and i enjoy seeing how you incorporate treasures from the past into your everyday life.
